In what was formerly a convent for The Sisters of Mercy, the celebrated Mustard Seed is set on ten acres of mature trees, herbaceous borders, orchard and kitchen garden. The busy, buzzy dining room has long been highly acclaimed, attracting lovers of good food and fine wine from around the globe.
Recent awards for 2013/14 include ‘Best restaurant in Ireland, Best Hotel Restaurant, Best Customer Service, Hideaway of the Year and the list goes on. Dinner is memorable and non residents are also welcome. The restaurant is open each evening serving an Early evening option along with the Classic Dinner Menu. Expect to enjoy such delights as Japanese onion and nettle soup or John Dory and Queen Scallops served with turnip purée, Sweet Cicely velouté, baby beets and pak choi. The kitchen garden behind this beautiful country home provides much of the vegetables and herbs used in the imaginative cooking. A clutch of Rhode island reds roam freely in what was once the old school yard providing fresh eggs for those lucky enough to stay overnight in one the magnificent guestrooms.
The reception rooms are adorned with artwork from several celebrated Irish artists and an eclectic mix of antiques and collectables are carefully curated by the owner Dan Mullane. The Mustard Seed at Echo Lodge is an ideal base for touring the south west region. Located just one hour drive from Shannon airport, the Dingle peninsula, Killarney, the ring of Kerry, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren are all pleasant day trips. For the golf enthusiast, a choice of four courses is within 30 minutes drive of the house. Horse riding, fishing and garden visits can be arranged nearby.
